Chapter 15 - Gen 14 - Devon

"Dad can I have a word."

"Bree how many times do I have to tell you about wandering around the house dressed like that, go put some clothes on."

"In a minute Dad, I need to tell you something."

"Go on then!"

Silence

"Spit it out - you look petrified - surely it can't be that bad!!"

"It is - ohhhhh I am going to throw up"

Off she ran to the bathroom

So I followed her to the bathroom, then it clicked.

"Your pregnant?"

"I think so."

There was a silence while I took the situation in.

"Your not mad at me are you Dad?"

"I am not old enough to be a granddad yet!!"

"Sorry Dad!!"

"Well you best had go and get yourself to the doctors and have you told Eugene?"

"I haven't told him yet."

"Well you best had go and tell him straight away!!"

Bree got dressed to go to work but never got there, she called Eugene round and I told him if Bree was pregnant then he could move in here till they sorted themselves out.  He seemed pretty pleased that there was a possibly of a baby on the way.  Then I found out his life time wish was the same as Cathleen's, to be surrounded by children so no wander.

The pregnancy confirmed and Bree went off to tell Euguene, while I got prepared for Cathleen because I knew that a baby in the house was going to set her off again.

My Dad was pretty shocked - he was about to become a great-grandad.  He never expected to live long enough to see any of his great grandchildren.

Of course the minute Cathleen found out about the baby she started to give me a headache.  She wanted another baby and I really was not sure still that I wanted anymore.

 I am not sure who was more excited about the baby Eugene or Cathleen - they were both hyper.

In all the excitement Marshal had his birthday, he was also now a teenager.  The two boys were very much alike.  Being athletic Marshal decided his life time wish was for physical perfection, which means he would have to master the athletics sill and martial arts skill to achieve it.

"You do realise don't you Bree you having this baby and you not being married is going to cause a stink up."

"Yes Grandad, Dad has already spoken to me and Eugene about it - the public disgrace of having a child out of wedlock"

"Good, just as long as you know."

"Dad, something has been bugging me - you said you didn't know about me so didn't you get publically disgraced when I was born."

"No Bree, I think there was only one person on this planet that knew I was your Dad and that was your Mother and as she never told anyone, nobody knew for me to be publically disgraced."

One of the first things that Marshal did being a teenager was get himself into trouble especially with his sister.  

"Your in big trouble young man!!!"  Bree was livid

"Why what did I do?"

"You know - I can put up with yellow hair dye when it washes straight out but Whoopee cushions - are you really such an idiot!!"

"Man chill out,  it was only a laugh!!"

"Yeah normally - but I am pregnant unless you hadn't noticed - it could have been dangerous - infact - your grounded!!"

"You can't ground me!!

"I just did!!

"Dad, tell her."

"Marshal she does have a point normally it wouldn't matter about a whoopee cushion and you really should have thought about your sister being pregnant, so maybe you should listen to your sister."

"So I am grounded and for how long?"

"That's up to your sister."

When I got back from work I noticed Dad was outside next door talking to his half brother Marley.  Marley went in and Melodie came out.  Mmmmmmmmm I didn't think somehow he would keep to that promise he made Mom.  He went inside and he didn't come until the next day.

Marshal was having a mood swing so everyone was keeping out of his way, it did not help he was also sulking over being grounded.  He got stuck into his Athletic training which kept him quiet for a while.

So I am now a Granddad - I swear I am not old enough!!

Poppy was born in the middle of the night, they were pretty happy because they both wanted a girl.

"So I get a son in law and a grand daughter all on the same day"

"Yeah, sorry Devon we did plan to get married this morning you know with everyone here but Poppy she kind of took us by surprise, she came earlier than we thought and Bree was stressing so we just got married quickly I hope you won't be too mad at her!!"

"No its fine, where is she?"

"Upstairs asleep, she is exhausted."

"It has been a long time since any of mine have been that small!!"

"I bet. Poppy has your eyes have you noticed."

"I am not surprised, have you seen all of my kids, she'll probably have the hair too."

"Is she ok?"

"She is fine - I didn't think it would take you long, I expected you to be camped out in here already!!"

"I am not that bad!!"

"Given half a chance you would be."

"So have you thought any about us having another one?"

"I knew that was coming too!!!"

"Well?"

"I am still thinking about it!!"

Miles swooped in and took off with Poppy.  I was not surprised that no one could get near Poppy but I expected it to be Cathleen or Eugene, but it was actually Miles who would not leave Poppy alone and was always the first one to get to her the minute she made the slightest noise.

But when Miles is at school Cathleen does get Poppy all to herself.

Mom paid us a visit - I bet Dad never told Mom where he spent last night!!! 

The boys went off to prom together.  Marshal came back in a mood because Miles had been deemed the prom king and Marshal had gotten into a fight and into trouble!!  However Marshal did get himself a love interest, not that he seemed very happy about it.

"I have fed Poppy and put her to bed."

"Thanks Grandad, or should I say Great Grandad."

"Just Grandad will do!!"

"How old are you anyway because you look the same to me as you did the first time I landed on the doorstep."

"I am 152."

"Wow - well past your sell by date then!!"

"Cheeky!!! - anyway what's this I hear about you three moving out?"

"Eugene has had another promotion so we can afford to rents somewhere."

"Devon, what did I say to you/"

"Dad I have told her and she won't have none of it maybe you can talk some sense into her!!"

"Bree I am not going to argue with you - your Dad will buy you a house, whichever one you want."

"No Grandad."

"No arguments, its what we do in this family, for all the kids, we can afford it you know if you are worrying about money, don't, you probably don't realise how much this family is worth!!"

"Probably not but ..."

"No buts - first thing in the morning Devon get it sorted."

"Yes Dad."

Poppy had her birthday and as I predicted she did have the hair!!

"Devon can we talk?"

"Let me guess - babies." I started laughing

"I am being serious Devon and you are just treating this as a joke."

She got up and stormed off.

"I am sorry - I am taking it serious"

"Well it does not look like it to me!!"

"Ok ok, you win, we can start trying for a baby."

"Really?"

"Yes, I suppose it would be nice to have one more boy to even it out, three of each"

"But Cathleen, this really should be the last one, we need to think about our ages."

"I know just one more."

"Happy now?"

"Yes - come on then - upstairs."

"Oh no!!"

"But you said."

"Later - I have work soon, I am sure you can wait till I get back from work."

"Ok - so later - thats a date then!!"

Chapter 16

I was pretty surprised at how different Eugene looked in and out of work with the two different hair styles and he was perfect I never even had to redress him :)

Chapter 14 - Gen 14 - Devon

"Devon I want another baby."

"Not yet Cathleen, don't you think we have our hands full enough already!!"

"I know but I really want another one."

"I am sorry love, we are just going to have to wait a while."

"Don't you want any more kids?"

"You know I have been way to busy with the ones we already have to even think about any more."

"Well will you think about it please!!"

"I'll think about it but I am not promising anything!!"

"Babies - and don't think you are going to con me into it Cathleen."

"It never even crossed my mind."

"Oh yeah and since when have you been so daring, Dad is only in the next room playing the piano, he might catch us."

"So!"

Dad was pretty miserable again, I know it was because he was not seeing Melodie any more, he was actually sticking to the promise he made to my Mom's ghost.  He now spent hours talking to Melodie on the pc, but you could see that this was not really making him happy.

Marshal has his birthday and becomes a child.

Then Bree told me something that kind of amused me.  She has a boyfriend Eugene Pratt, but I didn't know how they met until she told me.  She had gone to Wallys for a drink, there was nothing doing downstairs so she went upstairs.

The first thing she noticed when she went upstairs was the mixologist standing behind the bar, Eugene.  The very same bar Cathleen used to work - how ironic.  Know the hours a mixologist works I was not surprised that I would only see Eugene around for a few hours in the morning then Bree would disappear until after work.

I had my birthday, I had forgotten it was my birthday as I was busy at work.  I was so embarrassed when I walked out of the threatre, to age up right there infront of a crowd of people.  I am not sure that I like the extra wrinkles I have acquired!!!  My birthday was just the first of quite a few we had over the next few days.

Miles became a teenager

Cathleen had her adult birthday.  She just gained a few wrinkles like I had and looked no different.

and finally the twins had their birthdays, became young adults and graduated from school both with honours.

As usual the family ghosts were out to help celebrate the birthdays with the exception of my Mom who nobody had seen since her and Dad had words over Melodie.

I think my Grandmother has taken quite a shine to Miles, she talked to him for hours and then when he decided to play chess she joined him.  She only left when Miles became so exhausted he got up and found the closest thing to sleep on.

Everything changed around the place, the twins were both settled in a job, Maylee at the hospital and Mallory at the science fascility.  They decided that they wanted to move out together and get a place of their own, so I bought them a nice house on the other side of town.  Miles was out and about doing whatever and I got to spend a lot more time with Marshal, which up until now I had not really done.

"I hope you are behaving yourself when you are out and about Miles?"

"What do you mean Dad?"

"You know girls and stuff, what do you do when you go out anyway?"

"I go to the library mainly or fishing or busking in the park, and what about girls?"

"Oh, you surprise me - so you don't have a girlfriend yet then?"

"No, there is nobody at school I like."

I dreaded that my boys would take the same path that I did when I was young and stupid!!

"So how is the buskng going?"

"Not bad, I earned $100 the other day."

"So do you think you will be getting a job at the theatre once you graduate?"

"No, I prefer science, I am reading up on gardening at the library."

"You know there are gardening book in the bookcase here."

"I know but its better at the library, quieter, besides Marshal bugs me too much when I am home."

"I hope you aren't being nasty to him, it can't be easy for him being the baby."

"No I am not nasty to him but he drives me mad wanting me to play games with him and I definitely don't want to play hopscotch and in the sandpit with him - I am past all that!!"

"He does spend a lot of time in that sandpit, doesn't he."

"I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't have a load of sand in his bed!!!"

I also try to make plenty of time to working on my instrument skills.

The guitar and drums now mastered and what bit I had already learnt of the piano and bass, I was well over  halfway to achieving my lifetime wish.

On the wall in the dance room are my mastered certificates for the guitar and drums - I will not rest till there are four certificates on that wall.

Chapter 15

I have fallen in love with Miles - he is not only cute - but he seems to be a little geeky in the way he wants to be doing something constructive all the time.  He wants to learn every skill going by the looks of his wishes so far and he is always wanting to go off to the library and he isnt even a bookwork - lol
